Location | Abdij de Westerburcht is located in the centre of the touristic village Westerbork and surrounded by beautiful nature, ideal for cycling and hiking. Heather can be found on the egde of Westerbork. 13 kilometers away, you find the Transit Camp Westerbork. You can also go there by using an ANWB signposted cycling route through the forest which is available for free at the reception. The museum village Orvelte, one of the most beautiful villages according to the ANWB, is reachable by bike (Orvelterroute) or by hiking (Route.nl). But you can also make a route for cycling or hiking yourself, by using the extensive node network. Westerbork is in the heart of Drenthe and is nearby Assen, Hoogeveen and Emmen. Also Groningen is within half an hour reach.
Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork | The life of the victims and survivors of the camp is being told in the Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork. Personal stories in the form of exhibitions and films make the story of Camp Westerbork. It is accessible for children. Film footage from 1944, a partially decorated barrack, an out of the train thrown last goodbye note, a big scale model of the camp, drawings of playing children give an image and a feeling of this speaking past. The more than hundred thousand names of victims are projected in the museum at all times. Next to the exhibitions there are many activities that are being organised in the museum. There are special films about the history of Camp Westerbork or about people who were prisoners. Furthremore, the employees of the museum tell you about collection parts and give lectures. Also for children there are special activities. The last Sunday of the month is reserved for a lecture by an eye witness, someone who tells about their own experiences in the Second World War.

Hunebed Center | The Hunebedcentrum in Borger on the Drentse Hondsrug puts you on the trail to the prehistory. The time when the first farmers settled in the province of Drenthe. These farmers built the impressive stone burial monuments, the remains of which can still be admired in the landscape of Drenthe. There are still 54 and the largest is right next to the center.
Boomkroonpad | Various cycling and walking routes start at Buitencentrum Boomkroonpad through this vast area. You can also visit this visitor center for all kinds of activities, a presentation about forest life and a shop with nice things. If you want to see the forest from a different perspective, take a walk on the Boomkroonpad. This trail leads you high along the tops of the trees.
